Exterior decoration, Hillhead, Brixham

July 29, 2020 By Steve Robinson

One of the first jobs after lock-down was to paint the exterior, including window, soffits, fascias, doors and the porch of a three story end terrace at Hillhead. The masonry had to be washed with a fungicidal wash to remove the green mould and sea gull mess.

Quite a few of the windows had blown double glazed units that I had to replace before they could be painted. Quite often when double glazed units are blown moisture soaks into the wood of the window sashes so I had to cut out and replace the glazing bead on several windows as well as large sections of rotten wood.

Rear elevation of the property before work started
Front elevation of the property before work started
Large settlement cracks on the end wall had to be opened up and filled
Blown double glazed unit rotted the bottom of the sash and the glazing bead. First the rotten wood is chiselled out and primed, then a new section of wood is inserted.
Finally the new section of wood is sanded ready to be primed and painted
The front of the property after completion. Newly painted front door and frame, porch, windows, soffits, fascias and masonry.
Completed rear elevation
